HH Lokanath Swami's Sanayasa Danda


The courtyard of Krishna Balarāma mandir witnessed the Sannyas initiations of  Srila Sridhar Maharaj and one more Maharaj along with Gurumaharaj. After initiations, they returned back to Juhu and started living in the quarters where Prabhupāda lived.

Guru Maharaj used to take his sannyasa danda with him whenever he went to meet Prabhupada. The room is small to let the danda in him despite that carried with him “I like that you always carry your danda, why Shridhar Swami is not carrying? said Prabhupāda in a soft and stern voice.

And that day after till today, the danda became his constant companion during his travels, classes, darshans and everything in between!

During one of his visits to Ahemdabad, one of his personal servants opened his danda only to later realise that Gurumaharaj looked incomplete without his sannyasa danda!

Shrirang Chavan was a relative of  Gurumaharaj from Mumbai who came to inspire him and convinced him to rejoin and complete his studies. Once a grihastha disciple happened to converse with a Panda (Pujari) in Jagannath temple in Puri.  The Panda was narrating how Lord mercifully even today speaks and performs pastimes with certain devotees on this planet and one such person who is the senior most pujari of the temple, was narrating that in Iskcon there is one Lokanath Swami with whom Jagganath speaks!

When Gurumaharaj took sannyas he wrote a letter to his family that now I have took sannyasa and I want one more person from our family to join me, so HG Sita Mataji, Gurumaharaj’s sister took her son, who was 5-6 years old to Juhu temple.  Gurumaharaj to pick her up went to Vile Parle which is far from the temple so Gurumaharaj took the boy on his back from Vile Parle to Juhu temple on foot only to not waste Srila Prabhupāda’s money.
